Japanese by birth, and long-term resident in the United States, ‘Sam’ Tagaya, as he is widely known to his Western friends and associates, has over 38 years financial services experience, spanning three continents.
Having acquired his Bachelor of Arts degree from Tufts University in Medford Massachusetts, Sam went on to graduate from Cornell University Law School with a J.D. degree with specialization in International Legal Affairs. Following four years as a general corporate attorney in New York City, Sam became an investment banker with a major Wall Street securities firm, becoming one of the original members of its office in Tokyo, Japan. He subsequently ran the Asian desk in San Francisco and London, gaining broad experience in equities, fixed-income and foreign exchange.
Following retirement from the world of institutional investment banking, Sam returned to San Francisco, which he now considers home, and became active in the field of early-stage private equity investments, as well as insurance.
Aside from his professional activities, Sam pursues a serious avocation as a published author in the field of military aviation history. Sam is married to Edna, a former diplomat with the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines, and they have two adult children, a daughter and son.
