D-Day Imminent for GDPR

The data protection law is changing and new regulation, which all businesses in the EU (not just financial services) MUST follow, is coming into force on the 25 May 2018.

The legislation is called GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation).

The new rules are designed to create a uniform level of data protection throughout the EU and accommodate the requirements of the digital era and they will replace the current data protection directive which dates back to 1995.

Although many of the existing principles of the Data Protection Act are being carried into the new GDPR legislation, there are some new requirements to bring legislation up to date with technological changes and the law will have sharper teeth – penalties when things go wrong are much higher!
