On July 5th the Dutch parliament approved legislation to establish work-from-home as a legal right, making the Netherlands one of the first countries to grant remote working flexibility by law.
The legislation was approved by the lower house of the Netherlands. It still needs to be approved by the Dutch senate before its final adoption. The law forces employers to consider employee requests to work from home as long as their professions allow it.
Tax free work from home allowance
In order to compensate for these costs, the government announced the new tax-free work from home allowance (thuiswerkvergoeding), which came into effect on January 1, 2022. Under Dutch law, employers can now provide their workers with a tax-free allowance of up to two euros per day.
Effects on Health Care in 2023
Mandatory deductible (own risk)
In 2023 the mandatory deductible will not increase.
This means that the insured has to pay the first € 385 of medical expenses such as specialist care and medicines, himself. The mandatory deductible does not apply to obstetric and maternity care and costs that are made at the general practitioner.
It is expected that the premium level for the basic coverage will increase with an average of € 10 per month.
Basic package coverage
No large adjustments are announced on the coverage of the basic. Major change however is that no collective discount is allowed per 01-01-2023.
